Why vintage recipe boxes?
My wife has always been a collector of cookbooks. She loves the Better Homes and Gardens ones from the 1950s to the 1970s. My mom, on the other hand, had one good cookbook, and the rest of her go to recipes went in a box. (The wife kept her recipe cards in a drawer when I first met her,)
When we started doing vintage sales on Etsy as a side hustle, we found a lot of cookbooks. What we also found was recipe boxes. Tons of them, full of handwritten or neatly typed recipes. How could anyone just get rid of these? There were some where you could read the history of a cook from the 1940s to the present. So we decided to buy them, not to dump the cards and sell them, but to read and explore and get to know what people ate and when, and to explore recipes we’d never heard of.
